In a statement released today, Ms Jayalalithaa condoled the death of one S Saravanan,a labourer of the Tamilnadu Electricity board in Vizhupuram district, who was electrocuted on the 14th of August while he was fixing a street light.

She also expressed grief over the death of B Mahendran,a line man of Alapakkam TNEB in Tiruvallur district. It was reported that he was also electrocuted while discharging his duties.
Expressing grief over the deaths, Ms Jayalalithaa expressed her condolences to the bereaved family members and announced a cash solatium of 2 lakh rupees each from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.
