The Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Ms Jayalalithaa today conducted marriages of 64 poor couples in Chennai, organised as part of her 64th birthday celebrations.

The 64th birthday of Ms Jayalalithaa falls on the 24th of February. In a letter to party cadres, Ms Jayalalithaa had asked them to avoid any kind of extravaganza or ostentation on her birthday. Instead, she requested them to bring cheer to the faces of the poor on her birthday by way of extending welfare aids to them.



Accordingly, the J Jayalalithaa Peravai had organised the wedding of 64 poor couples  today. Ms Jayalalithaa solemnised the wedding of the couples at a specially erected pandal at the Royapettah YMCA grounds in Chennai. The specially designed pandal  facilitated the 64 couples to sit comfortably and also accommodated family members and party cadres, gathered to witness the function.


Silk sarees ,silk dhotis and 4 gram  gold thaalis  were provided to each couple .Ms Jayalalithaa handed over the thaalis to the couples with the traditional nadaswram music playing.


Ms Jayalalithaa also gave away 64 gift articles to each  couple which included items like mixies, grinders, cookers, gas stoves,table fans,cooking vessels, clocks,matresses,blankets,bedsheets, suitcases,and pooja items. 



Following this' each couple had their photographs taken with the Chief Minister.



The treasurer of AIADMK and the state minister for finance, O Paneerselvam  welcomed the gathering.
The vote of thanks was delivered by the secretary of J Jayalalithaa peravai TR Anbazhagan.
