The Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Ms Jayalalithaa today flagged off 87 new patrol vehicles to be used by the Chennai city police at a cost of nearly 5 and a half crore rupees.

This initiative of the chief minister will strengthen police patrol in the metropolis, ensuring more efficiency in providing security to the public.



Ms Jayalalithaa has been initiating several forerunner schemes to modernise the police department and also to provide welfare to the police personnel of the state.



In line with these proactive measures, she had ordered to purchase 87 new police patrol vehicles to enable exemplary security service to the public.



Accordingly, at a cost of 5 crore 55 lakh 53 thousand 630 rupees, 87 new patrol vehicles fitted with modern equipments was given to the police department of the Greater Chennai.



Ms Jayalalithaa flagged off these vehicles today from the state secretariat.



The chief secretary of the state, the principle secretary for home affairs, the DGP, the Police commissioner of greater Chennai and several senior officials of the police department took part in the function.
