In a press release today, the Tamil Nadu government said that the government led by Ms Jayalalithaa acts as a protective force for the downtrodden people belonging to the Adi Dravidar community and Scheduled Tribes. Several schemes are being implemented by the government to raise their living standards by assisting them to pursue their education,by generating employment opportunities and by giving them financial assistance.
The press release listed the various schemes implemented by the government led by Ms Jayalalithaa including the distribution of cost-less bicycle, increase in the allowance for food and other personal expenses given to students staying in hostels, increase in the number of inmates in hostels to ensure that there are no school drop outs and construction of new buildings with all infrastructure facilities for the schools for Adi Dravidar and Scheduled Tribe children.
On information that 779 schools out of the one thousand 369 schools functioning under the Adi Dravidar welfare department had no toilet facilities, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today ordered construction of toilets in all these 779 schools immediately.
She has ordered allotment of 5 lakh rupees for each school, totalling 38.95 crore rupees for all the 779 schools.
This would ensure a hygienic environment for the students studying in these schools, the press release added.
