With the twin objective of reaching out to students of small towns as well as to encourage technical education among the students, the Chief Minister  Jayalalithaa today proposed establishing 20 educational institutions in the state  including 2 engineering colleges, 7 polytechnics and 11 arts and science colleges.

Ms Jayalalithaa, while reading out a report on the developmental schemes in the field of education in the Tamil Nadu assembly, said the Government would start these colleges this year to ensure that students in rural areas continued their studies after finishing their higher secondary education.
