She asked the voters to teach a fitting lesson to the DMK by ensuring that the its candidate loses his deposit in the by election. Ms. Jayalalithaa also asserted that power shortage caused by the administrative ineptitude of the previous DMK regime would be set right soon.
Ms. Jayalalithaa began her campaign at Thiruvengadam Bazaar and addressed the gathering. Following this, she canvassed for Muthuselvi at various places in the Sankarankovil constituency including Kuruvikulam, Naalu Vaasan Kottai, Malaiyaan kulam Vilakku and Gomathi Amman Sannadhi Theru Junction. Stating that Sankarankoil had always been the citadel of AIADMK, Ms. Jayalalithaa said after she assumed the leadership of the AIADMK in 1991 and till 2011, the people of Sankarankoil had consistently elected the AIADMK candidates in all the assembly elections. The Chief Minister pointed out that Karunanidhi had fielded a person who had grabbed the land belonging to the late Union Minister Arunachalam through forged documents, as the DMK candidate. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa noted that after she assumed office, about one thousand hundred and ninety persons had been arrested on land grabbing charges and land worth 724 crore rupees across the state had been retrieved from them and handed over to the owners.
Ms. Jayalalithaa listed out the various poll promises of the AIADMK that had been fulfilled by her government. She said that rule of law had been enshrined under her leadership.
Pointing out with sadness that power shortage was continuing in Tamil Nadu because of the administrative ineptitude of the previous DMK regime, the Chief Minister said that she was giving priority to power generation projects and was giving special attention to the same. She also asserted that her government would soon put a full stop to the power crisis.
Recalling the unanimous resolution passed in the Tamil Nadu assembly urging the centre to impose economic sanctions against Sri Lanka, Ms. Jayalalithaa charged the Congress led Union government of failure to do any thing in this regard.
The Chief Minister urged the voters to teach a fitting lesson to the DMK party which had indulged in land grabbing, amongst other things, by ensuring that the DMK candidate loses his deposit and vote for the AIADMK candidate Muthuselvi and give her the fruit of victory.
